THE CHALLENGE: The Municipality of Koggenland, based in the North of Holland, needed a cohesive visual identity for its sustainability initiatives that could effectively communicate reliable information and inspire optimism about a green future. The challenge was to create a sub-brand that felt connected to the municipality while standing out with its own unique character. Additionally, the campaign needed to reach a broad audience, including residents with low digital literacy, which required clear, accessible, and engaging design.
THE SOLUTION: I developed a design system for Koggenland’s sustainability campaign that was engaging, inclusive, and easy to understand. The brand's warm and positive personality, paired with simple and iconic visuals, helped establish trust and effectively communicated how the municipality could support residents in sustainability efforts. The distinctive yet approachable visual identity made the campaign accessible to a wide audience while maintaining a strong connection to the municipality's core brand.
Rounded shapes were chosen to evoke friendliness, positivity and warmth mixed with sharper edges and a bold sans serif type for legibility and professional feel. The idea is also to use rounded and organic shapes throughtout branding and social media to showcase the brand values, representing polders, nature and state of fluidity and create a sense of connection between residents, municipality and a green future.
The elongated ‘K’ was inspired by the existing logo of the Koggenland municipality to make it recognisable as a sub-brand.
Unified elements of the flower shape and leaves were used in every version of the logo to ensure brand cohesiveness and recognition.
